Nikon Black FX1000 Review: A Competition-Ready Scope to Hit Targets with Precision at 1 Mile or 1,760 Yards

Nikon Black FX1000 Rifle Scopes are competition-ready rifle scopes that come with first focal plane (FFP) reticle placement design that enables average shooters hit targets at a distance of 1 mile or 1,760 yards. This series of riflescope has enabled average consumers to experience the excellence of first-focal-plane glass at a price point that is well below US$1,000.

Nikon Black FX1000 FFP riflescope series comes in two variants: 4-16×50 mm and 6-24×50 mm.

Nikon Black FX1000 6-24x50SF FFP Rifle Scope: Review

Nikon Black FX1000 6-24x50SF FFP Rifle Scope is a great entry-level type scope for long-range shooting. It comes with high-quality glass and a wide range of advanced features that you’ll hardly find in an entry-level FFP scope. Though it is not the best at any one feature,  this scope line provides you a lot of features packed in a single scope. With all these features in place, Nikon’s Black FX1000 6-24x50SF Scope comes at an MSRP of $799.95. Let’s give it a closer look.

Turrets

Both the elevation and windage turrets have 25 MOA per revolution and ¼ minute increments. 60 MOA is the maximum adjustment, which is fine for most long-range shooters. However, if you are looking for extended long-ranges, 60 MOA is definitely not enough.

It is easy to get the desired turret setting for a shot because the clicks are audible and the detents are just perfect. Initially, you may miss the dial and overshoot sometimes and you may have to go back a click or two. However, after using it a couple of times, you will get the clicks right every time.

Reticle and Focal Plane

Whether you are using FX-MRAD or FX-MOA reticles, the subtensions are spot on. With the First Focal Plane in place, the size of the crosshairs will change with respect to the selected magnification. When the power-setting has been cranked down to the lower end of the magnification, the optical images are a bit tough to see.

Optical Performance

The optical performance is good and the images located at 1,000 yards or even more can be seen clearly through the glass. Though slight chromatic aberration may be seen, you’ll hardly notice it while taking a shot at a game.

Zero Stop

This feature works well with the Nikon Black FX1000 6-24x50SF FFP Rifle Scope’s setup. You can set it easily by simply removing the turret, loosening the zero-stop collar’s set screw, and turning the collar clockwise until it stops. Once done, tighten the set screw and put the turret on the place.

Conclusion

Nikon Black FX1000 6-24x50SF FFP Riflescope is definitely the best first focal plane scope available at a price under US$1,000. The high-quality glass system along with all the features this scope line is a perfect companion for long-range hunters, who want to bring down that whitetail or other games, located 1 mile away.

Nikon Black FX1000 4-16x50SF FFP Rifle Scope: Review

Nikon Black FX1000 4-16x50SF FFP Riflescope is the real winner in the tactical optics market, especially at a price point that is halfway between US$500-1000. Depending upon the model you are using, it comes at a street price of US$649.95 or US$749.95.

Vital Statistics

Nikon Black FX1000 4-16x50SF FFP Scope is just 14.8 inches long. However, the length increases to 18.7 inches if the provided lens shade is mounted. Without the shade, this long-range scope weighs just 23.8 oz. The manufacturer has incorporated a diopter adjustable optic along with a rubberized eye guard.

Turrets

The elevation turret comes with the desired adjustable zero stop, which is an extremely useful feature on the field. The clicks are both positive and reliable. If you still want more, go with the Spot On Custom Turrets of Nikon Optics (compatible with Nikon Black FX1000 4-16x50SF). In addition to the 50-yards-to-infinity parallax knob (on the left side of the scope), this scope comes with an easy-to-find 3-volt single CR2032 battery (hidden in the brightness dial).

Optical Performance

The long-range hunters will be awestruck to see a clear, edge-to-edge target image across the magnification range. The clearest image can be seen at the highest magnification with no color or fuzz around the edges of the optic. No strange color entered the frame when the magnification is cranked down to 9x. Both optical sharpness and contrast are good across the magnification range.

Reticle and Focal Plane

No matter whether you are using FX-MRAD/FX-MOA reticle, the subtensions are spot on. With the First Focal Plane in place, the size of the crosshairs will change with respect to the selected magnification. When the power-setting has been cranked down to the lower end of the magnification, the optical images are a bit tough to see. The 10-level reticle-illumination brightness is perfect and doesn’t blanket the field-of-view with a crimson haze/tint. Between each brightness setting, an “off” is present so that you can rotate the dial to adjust reticle brightness with the prevailing lighting condition.

Conclusion

Nikon Black FX1000 4-16x50SF FFP Rifle Scope is definitely the best scope a hunter can lay hand on to, especially because of the first focal plane setting, high-quality viewing performance, and the below-US$800 price point. If you are looking for a long-range tactical or hunting scope to hit a target at over 1,000 yards, this is definitely one of the best choices you can have in the market at a street price under US$800.
