Pulsar Products 2019: What’s New?

Pulsar introduced two latest high-technology based equipment at SHOT Show 2019. During the 4-day event operated by National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), Pulsar introduced:

  • Pulsar Axion: This is a compact metal pocket size thermal imaging monocular.
  • Pulsar Thermion: This is the new-age premium riflescope which comes with traditional-style aircraft-grade 30mm-tube and premium thermal imaging.

Now, let’s have a closer look at both the new Pulsar thermal imaging products:

1. Pulsar Axion Thermal Imaging Monocular

Pulsar Axion is a completely new thermal imaging monocular that is based on a 12µm Amorphous Silicon microbolometer sensor. It features 320×240 resolution at 50hz. This new thermal imaging monocular is the most compact, lightest, and smallest thermal Imaging monocular ever produced by Pulsar. Pulsar Axion monoculars perfectly fit a standard-size pocket and are convenient for one-hand use. Therefore, they are easy to carry and at the same time comfortable to grip and handle. They are perfect portable units for scouting and spotting.

Models:

Axion XM monocular comes in three models that differ in terms of the focal length of the main Germanium lens. These three models are:

  • Axion XM30: It comes with a 4-16x magnification range.
  • Axion XM38: It comes with a 5.5-22x magnification range.
  • Axion Key XM30: It comes with a 2.5-10x magnification range.

All these models offer a 4x zoom. It is because of the high “crop factor” that has made it possible for such a smaller size scope of the 12µm sensor to offer 4x zoom. Both Pulsar Axion XM30 and XM38 come with color 1024×768 AMOLED microdisplay (located in the eyepiece), Stream Vision smartphone app (Wi-Fi supported), built-in video recording capability, and 18650 Li-Ion rechargeable battery.

It is important to note that Key XM30 is the entry-level version of the Axion XM30 model. This model uses a Chalcogenide lens instead of Germanium, which has made it possible to yield a lower 2.5x native magnification. Key XM30 offers LCOS microdisplay. No support for Wi-Fi and Stream Vision are available.

Highlights:

  • Long Detection Range

Pulsar Axion Thermal Imaging Monocular enables a hunter, target shooter, or spotter to detect a standard object (6 feet tall) up to 1,800 yards in complete darkness. This has become possible due to the combination of 12 µm professional grade thermal imaging sensor and a powerful objective lens of F28/1.2 (in case of Axion XM30 and Axion Key XM30) or F38/1.2 (in case of Axion XM38).

  • Powerful Thermal Imaging Sensor

Axion XM monoculars come with new and improved thermal imaging sensors that have a 12 µm pixel pitch. This helps to observe at longer distances.

  • Rugged Housing

Pulsar AXION Thermal Imaging Scopes are manufactured from lightweight magnesium alloy. This feature provides the monocular a higher structural rigidity as well as ruggedness.

  • Video and Still-Photo Recording

Hunters and spotters can record films or photos by pressing the REC button. They can also share those once-in-a-lifetime experiences with others easily. Axion monocular comes with 16 GB of internal memory.
