History

In the late 1980s, Dr. Raymond Dennis embarked on a mission to create what he couldn’t find – a rugged, dependable, and consistent riflescope suitable for nighttime fox hunting in the unforgiving Australian environment. This passion led to the birth of Nightforce Optics in 1992.

By 1998, the initial 3.5-15 power Varmint scope evolved into the Nightforce NXS series, and the company established its current facility in Orofino, Idaho. Over the years, the NXS family was tailored to meet the demands of elite U.S. military units, securing contracts for scopes like the NXS 1-4×24, 2.5-10×24, 3.5-15×50 F1, and 5.5-22×56.

In 2013, Nightforce introduced groundbreaking optics like the BEAST, the inaugural ATACR 5-25×56, and the Competition 15-55×52, becoming a favorite among First-class shooters worldwide. The SHV (Shooter, Hunter, Varminter) family expanded Nightforce’s reach into the broader hunting and varmint markets in 2014. The ATACR family continued to evolve, with models like the 4-16×42 F1, 5-25×56 F1, and 7-35×56 F1 gaining acclaim as precision instruments in competitions like the Precision Rifle Series and King of 2 Mile ELR.

In 2018, Nightforce transformed the NXS family into the NX8, boasting a compact, lightweight design and contemporary features to cater to the needs of modern hunters and competitors. Between 2018 and 2021, Nightforce secured significant contracts, including USSOCOM S-VPS, P-VPS, and R-VPS, with Mil-Spec versions of the ATACR 1-8×24 F1, 4-20×50 F1, 5-25×56 F1, and 7-35×56 F1. These contracts underscored Nightforce’s commitment to crafting highly precise and reliable optics.

From the challenging Outback hunts to championship matches and military deployments worldwide, Nightforce Optics have endured and excelled in the most extreme conditions. Their team has consistently exceeded the most discerning customers’ expectations for three decades. Nightforce is excited to carry Ray Dennis’s vision by innovating the next generation of rugged, dependable, consistent optics.

Nightforce Reticles

When purchasing a riflescope, one of the most challenging decisions often revolves around choosing the right reticle. Reticles play a vital role in how shooters interact with their targets, and this decision is both a personal and crucial factor in determining the riflescope’s performance for a specific application.

At Nightforce, a team of experienced hunters and shooters passionate about delivering purpose-built reticles ensures that shooters have functional and practical options. With offerings in F1 and F2 models catering to Minute of Angle (MOA) and Mil-Radian (MRAD) preferences, Nightforce provides a comprehensive selection of reticles suitable for virtually any imaginable use.

MOA Reticles

Here’s a concise overview of the MOA reticle choices available:

1. MOAR: Nightforce’s MOA-based reticle is a popular favorite known for its versatility and intelligence, making it suitable for a wide range of shooting applications.

2. MOAR-T: For those seeking even finer precision, the MOAR-T is a refined version of our MOAR™ reticle, ideal for precise shots at both close and extreme ranges.

3. MOAR-CF2: An evolution of the beloved MOAR reticle, the MOAR-CF2 features an open center with a floating dot and intuitive numbering, enabling rapid and accurate shooting, whether dialing or using holdover.

4. MOAR-CF2D: Designed specifically for use with the NX8 4-32×50 scope at 16x and 32x magnifications, the MOAR-CF2D is a Dual Scale version of the MOAR-CF2 reticle.

Furthermore, it’s essential to understand the Minute of Angle (MOA), a unit of angular measurement. One MOA corresponds to one-sixtieth of one degree, approximately equal to 1.047 inches at 100 yards. However, it’s important to note that MOA values are not linear and vary with distance. For instance, at 200 yards, 1 MOA is approximately 2.094 inches; at 300 yards, it’s roughly 3.141 inches, and so on.

This understanding of MOA aids shooters in making precise adjustments based on angular measurements, ensuring accuracy, especially during long-range shooting.
