Schmidt & Bender, the well renowned German scope manufacturer, has recently announced their newest riflescope feature known as LPI. This new illumination control style brings S&B into the modern age of riflescope controls.
What is LPI?
LPI is an acronym denoting the German words “Leucht-Parallaxe-Integriert”, in English: “Illumination Parallax Integrated”. While previous iterations of S&B scope designs had the illumination control located on the rear of the scope tube on a separate “turret” near the eyepiece, the LPI models have the illumination control extended past the parallax adjustment on the left side of the erector housing of the scope. This illumination control setup is commonly found on many other brands of scopes including Nightforce, Vortex, Leupold, Meopta, Steiner, and many others.
Why do I need LPI?
Scmidt & Bender’s new LPI illumination control keeps the characteristics that S&B users know and love, while allowing easier use with the left hand, more intuitive control, and a sleeker scope design. The LPI illumination control has 11 distinct illumination brightness settings with an OFF setting in between each.
This new design is not only visually appealing, but it allows more room for scope rings or a one piece mount and fine tuning of eye relief when installing the scope.
Which models are offered with LPI?
At this time, Schmidt & Bender will be offering the 5-20×50 PMII Ultra Short and the all new 6-36×56 PMII High Performance with the new LPI feature.
