Reticle Options with Nightforce NXS 5.5-22×50 and ATACR 5-25×56 Models

To begin with, all kinds of reticles can’t be used with the two most popular tactical riflescopes of Nightforce Optics – Nightforce ATACR 5-25×56 and NXS 5.5-22×50. If you are wondering what reticle to use with your Nightforce scope, here’s a brief guide:

  1. Nightforce NXS 5.5-22×50

Among all the available riflescopes in the Nightforce category, Nightforce NXS 5.5-22×50 provides maximum number of reticle choices – Mil-dot Reticle, MOAR Reticle, MOAR-T Reticle, MLR Reticle, NP-R1 Reticle, and NP-R2 Reticle.

i. Mil-dot Reticle – This tactical reticle comes with see-through posts as well as dots. This is especially helpful for shooters because they help in better estimation of range. Most importantly, this feature doesn’t obscure the target you are aiming at.

ii. MLR Reticle – It is an improved version of mil-dot reticle that comes with subtensions of 0.5 mil. This helps in more accurate hold-offs as well as estimation of range. Even for long range shooting you will not miss smaller targets because of obscurity of image due to the reticle design. See-through design helps you to take down even the smallest targets at long range shooting easily. It needs special mention that MLR reticles are not same as MIL-R reticle.

iii. NP-R1 Reticle – This reticle type is basically based upon MOA measurement. On horizontal axis of the reticle it comes with subtensions of 1 MOA. On vertical axis of the reticle, the subtensions are of 2 MOA.

iv. NP-R2 Reticle – Concept behind this reticle is absolutely the same as NP-R1 Reticle, that has been mentioned above. It is also based upon MOA measurement. In comparison to NP-R1, MOA subtensions are more here. While on the vertical axis 2 MOA subtensions are there, on the horizontal axis 5 MOA subtensions are present.

v. MOAR Reticle – This reticle type is based upon MOA measurement and comes with floating center crosshair. Precise aiming can be done with MOAR reticle because of the presence of floating center crosshair type. Better hold-offs and range measurement is possible with this MOA-based reticle because of the presence of subtensions of 1.0 MOA. This reticle works great in low light conditions because of the design. Target acquisition can be done quickly with MOAR reticle because of the thick posts at three positions. In fact, this feature also helps the reticle to work great in lower magnification ranges.

vi. MOAR-T Reticle – Almost all the properties of this reticle-type is similar to that of MOAR reticle, explained above. The only visible difference is in the thinner lines. The lines are almost fifty per cent thinner than those found in MOAR reticle. While thickness of lines at MOAR-T Reticle are only .0625 MOA, those in MOAR reticle are just 0.140 MOA.

2. Nightforce ATACR 5-25×56

With this scope you can use three kinds of reticle types – MIL-R, MOAR, and MOAR-T reticles.

i. MIL-R Reticle – This reticle type is known for its uncluttered design and gives shooters lots of space at the top-half for spotting or observing. MIL-R Reticle is a mil-based one that comes with two kinds of subtensions – 1.0 mil and 0.5 mil. 0.1 mil graduations are available at inverted T scale that helps in estimating range accurately. Aiming proper target becomes especially easy due the presence of floating center crosshair. MIL-R Reticle can be used for short magnification range because of the presence of thick posts at three strategic positions (3, 6, and 9 O’Clock positions of the reticle). This feature also helps the shooter in quicker target acquisition.

ii. MOAR Reticle

It comes with floating center crosshair, 1.0 MOA subtensions, numerical indicators on elevation and windage axes, and thick posts in three strategic positions (as mentioned above).

iii. MOAR-T Reticle – All the features are exactly the same as MOAR Reticle but one. This reticle type comes with thinner lines in comparison to MOAR reticle.

Now, you know about the reticle choices you have with your the coveted Nightforce tactical riflescopes – Nightforce NXS 5.5-22×50 and Nightforce ATACR 5-25×56. So choose the reticle type that matches your need in the best possible way!
