The only lighter weight scopes come with 42mm and 44mm objective lens diameter, in sharp comparison to 50mm objective lens diameter at this Nightforce NXS scope. When compared with other 50mm riflescopes, this device is found to have a weight that is lighter by few ounces. With this comparatively lighter weight, Nightforce NXS 5.5-22×50 helps the shooters get enhanced performance than that of its 50mm objective lens peers.
Users can perform magnification adjustment quite easily as this riflescope comes with the facility of rotating ocular bell entirely. The ocular bell has been designed and manufactured in such a manner that the shooters can grab the bell from behind the scope and quickly make adjustment in magnification. This is found to be specifically helpful for zeroing in, targeting, and bringing down moving targets. The best part here is that the ocular bell can be adjusted without even lifting one’s head or moving eyes off the scope. However, this also means that the commonly used flip-up scope covers, manufactured by Butler Creek, can’t be used here. It is because rotating the magnification while keeping open the flip-up cover will hit the rifle and is very likely to break off. When it comes to eye relief at Nightforce NXS 5.5-22×50, it has been found to be consistent throughout the entire magnification. One of the greatest ergonomic features of Nightforce NXS 5.5-22×50 is the 1-click adjustment, which is devoid of any kind of accidental overrun. While adjusting the elevation, the torque required is just 3.6 inch-pounds. The torque is right in the sweet spot (right between 2.5 and 5) and most shooters find it to be the ideal torque. It has been found that 5.0 is way too heavy and 2.5 too light without the presence of a lock.
Clicks in the turrets are absolutely clean and crisp. A shooter will hardly face problem of accidental stop in between the clicks. However, you can get stop in between the clicks but you have to try it hard to do it. The turret feel is average.
However, one of the drawbacks that shooters will confront is that they will not be able to see which rotation they are on. Old-style lines below the turret are the revolution indicator. However, this is not the most obvious system we come across in most high quality scopes. It would have been preferred if Nightforce manufactured and designed the NXS 5-20×50 scope in the similar way as found in high quality tactical scopes of other popular manufacturers including Schmidt and Bender, Steiner, Leupold, Kahles, and Hensoldt.
Distance marking is absent in the parallax knob of Nightforce NXS 5.5-22×50. Though this is not a big issue with most shooters, either pro or amateur, still distance markings do help in getting a prior idea of the distance the target is located.
